edrummer - a new approach to virtual drums for GNU Linux

edrummer is a new idea that comes to cover the empty space of a native and free professional virtual instrument for drums for GNU/Linux platforms. It can be used either with an e-drum device or with a sequencer.
edrummer is currently in the planning phase. Follow the wiki for more info or the forums and mailing lists at its sourceforge page.

The story so far...

Although GNU/Linux systems provide robust platforms for a huge variety of applications, the audio production section lacks a lot of tools that are available in the Windows and MAC worlds. Unfortunately, the best drumming software in the GNU/Linux wolrd, Hydrogen, is not very suitable for being driven by e-drums and is nowhere near the competition coming from other platforms, such as BFD2, Superior Drummer, Addictive drums to name a few.

Apart from the missing functionality that makes it difficult to use existing software with e-drums, there is the lack of high quality drum sample libraries. The drum part is very special in music, and if the produced result is closer to reality, compositions become more vivid and aspiring. Thus, it is necessary to create such high quality libraries, packed in a format that makes it possible to provide the desired features for a desent drums virtual instrument.

So here comes edrummer, to provide a combination of an efficient drumming engine along with high quality sample libraries.
